Mackinlay\u2019s Old Scotch Whisky is a historic blended Scotch with a rich legacy dating back to 1815. It gained international fame as the whisky choice of Sir Ernest Shackleton during his 1907\u20131909 Antarctic expedition. In 2007, several bottles of this whisky were discovered under Shackleton\u2019s base camp, preserved in sub-zero temperatures for nearly a century.<\/p>\n

Following this discovery, Whyte & Mackay, the current owner of the Mackinlay\u2019s brand, recreated the original blend to honor Shackleton\u2019s legacy. The result was the Mackinlay\u2019s Rare Old Highland Malt, a blended malt whisky crafted from whiskies including Glen Mhor and Dalmore, aged in American oak sherry casks, and bottled at 47.3% ABV \u2014 the same strength as the original expedition bottles.<\/p>\n

This recreation was released in two limited editions: \u201cThe Discovery\u201d and \u201cThe Journey,\u201d each presented in packaging that reflects the historical context of Shackleton\u2019s expedition.<\/p>\n
