🥃 The Original Mackinlay — Blended Scotch Whisky
Mackinlay’s Old Scotch Whisky is a historic blended Scotch with a rich legacy dating back to 1815. It gained international fame as the whisky choice of Sir Ernest Shackleton during his 1907–1909 Antarctic expedition. In 2007, several bottles of this whisky were discovered under Shackleton’s base camp, preserved in sub-zero temperatures for nearly a century.
Following this discovery, Whyte & Mackay, the current owner of the Mackinlay’s brand, recreated the original blend to honor Shackleton’s legacy. The result was the Mackinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt, a blended malt whisky crafted from whiskies including Glen Mhor and Dalmore, aged in American oak sherry casks, and bottled at 47.3% ABV — the same strength as the original expedition bottles.
This recreation was released in two limited editions: “The Discovery” and “The Journey,” each presented in packaging that reflects the historical context of Shackleton’s expedition.
